PROGRAM DESIGN – 5 mindsets

IMPM & the 5 Mindsets

Program philosophy - the practice of management

IMPM co-founder Henry Mintzberg describes management as a complex and challenging practice where art, science and craft meet. It requires the kind of understanding that can only come with experience. He has long criticized conventional MBA programs where professors typically stand in front of a class and lead students through theory in case studies.

Instead, he believes that a more reflective, practical and hands-on approach is required, and that managers need to come together and learn how to learn from each other’s experience.

Program design

The IMPM is a unique Masters program. Executives travel around the world as part of a uniquely cross-cultural experience, learning individually and as a group, while remaining in work, where they apply what they learn.

The IMPM is built around five modules (nine days each) each focusing on one of the five managerial mindsets (reflective, analytical, worldly, collaborative, action) and presented in different parts of the world. The mindset approach helps reprogram the way participants think so they gain new insights into the challenges they face as managers.

1 - Managing Self: The Reflective Mindset

2 - Managing Organizations: The Analytical Mindset

3 - Managing Context: The Worldly Mindset

4 - Managing Relationships: The Collaborative Mindset

5 - Managing Change & Continuity: The Action Mindset
